Amber-winged SPREADWING

This is an Amber-winged Spreadwing, photographed at the Caesar Creek Wildlife Area on May 26, 2019. The amber tint to the wings is distinctive.

Amber-winged Spreadwings have dark stripes on the sides of their thorax (obscured here by pruinosity).

Amber-winged Spreadwings fly from late May through June.

This Amber-winged Spreadwing was photographed at Grant Park in Centerville. Grant Park and Caesar Creek are the only two sites locally where I have seen this species.

Amber-winged Spreadwings live in large but shallow ponds and wetlands.

The dark thoracic stripes are more obvious on this newly-emerged female.
