CORN EARWORM

Corn Earworm moth. Their caterpillars are considered an agricultural pest (they eat ears of corn, among other things), but I confess to being very fond of these pretty little moths. These moths are day-fliers, frequently seen at flowers.

Close-up view of a Corn Earworm at rest. This species generally flies from August through November. I have seen them a couple of times in May and July, but they are far more common in the fall months.  November 18th is my latest sighting.
