porcelain gray and small engrailed

Porcelain Gray. Note the four black wedges on the edge of each forewing, and the heavy black jagged lines on the hindwings.

Porcelain Gray. Very common in our area, I have found this species every month from April through September.

Small Engrailed moth. Note the four black dots forming a square-shaped mark on its abdomen.

Small Engrailed. This moth would be well-camouflaged, were it not for one corner of its wing resting against the brick.

Porcelain Gray, resting on my fingertips.

Small Engrailed moths have several broods. I have found them every month from February through August, and also in October. (My earliest sighting was February 24, 2017, during a bout of unusually warm weather.)

Porcelain Gray. Some individuals have darker shading on the hindwings.
