CLOVER LOOPER AND FORAGE LOOPER

Clover Looper. This species and the very similar Forage Looper (below) can be difficult to distinguish from one another. In this Clover Looper, the brown AM and PM bands meet at the inner margin, forming a U-shape.

This is a Forage Looper. Notice the gap between the AM and PM lines (the PM line is shorter and does not reach all the way to the inner margin). Forage Loopers tend to be more grayish, while Clover Loopers are usually brown. However, the color is variable for both species.

This is another Forage Looper. Both of these species are abundant in our area, and many individuals are too worn to identify with certainty. I have found these moths every month from March through November.
