IDIA AND PALTHIS MOTHS

Faint-spotted Palthis. These moths are often confused with the Dark-spotted Palthis below. Their names are tricky because the Faint-spotted Palthis is actually the darker of the two moths. Faint-spotted Palthis moths are common from May through November.

American Idia moth. Another very common species, although not quite as numerous as the Common Idia. I find American Idias from June through early October.

Common Idia moth. This species is abundant in our area.

This is the Dark-spotted Palthis. Notice the long labial palps (the "snout").

Another Dark-spotted Palthis. These moths are common from April through early November.

Another Common Idia Moth. I find them continuously from late May through early November.

Glossy Black Idia. These moths are nowhere near as common at my lights as the two species above. I have found a couple of Glossy Black Idias in July.
