THE BEGGAR, BROWN SCOOPWING, and Yellow-spotted Webworm

Beggar Moth, photographed at Spring Lakes Park in Bellbrook. 

Brown Scoopwing, a moth with a very distinctive shape. I found this individual at my UV lights on May 28, 2017. It is the only Brown Scoopwing I have ever seen. The larvae eat various types of viburnums. 

The Beggar Moth. This species gets its name from the dark patches on its wings, which resemble the holes in a beggar's garments.

I have found Beggar Moths every month from May through September.

Yellow-spotted Webworm, photographed on June 7, 2022. These are very tiny moths. 

This is my only other sighting of a Yellow-spotted Webworm. Photographed at my lights on September 1, 2023.
