RENIA Moths
Speckled Renia. I have found several of these at my lights in May and June.
Another Discolored Renia. Some individuals have a strongly banded pattern like this one.
Sober Renia moth. This one was found at Grant Park in Centerville. These moths visit my black lights as well, from April through July.
Sociable Renia. I have only found two individuals at my moth lights: this one on September 6, 2024, and another on September 27, 2025.
There are several very similar-looking Renia moths. Bugguide has a good list of criteria for distinguishing the different species. The individual at left is a Discolored Renia, the largest Renia moth in size.
This is another Discolored Renia. I have found a few Discolored Renias at my lights from June through September. I can usually tell them apart from the other Renia species by their large size.
